It's been just over 25 years since my visit to the lodge. I can remember the visit like it was yesterday! The staff was excellent, and the food was superb! I can recall one day questioning what time it was, as I was getting hungry. Our guide replied "11". I told him "wow, that's great! It's still early!" He laughed and said "no no no, it's 11PM! You guys have been fishing for over 13 hours!" I guess time does fly when you are having the time of your life! A few word of advise: be cautious of the "clear water". The water is so extremely clear that one cannot gage the depth as one step is 2 feet deep, and your next step is over 12 feet deep! And yes that water is cold, even in August! Watch out for the Germans. As I harvested my next day's bait from my current days catch. The Germans snatched and ate my bait (salmon eggs), within seconds of turning my back! I still smile when thinking of that. So if you love fishing (or even if you so so like it), and want to make lifelong memories; take this trip to the Lodge! Wilderness Place Lodge has that feeling of home, of friends and of peace. The overall experiece was wonderful, not just the superior fishing. We caught multiple species of salmon, rainbow trout, grayling and northern pike on both spin and fly rods. The food... oh my gosh, the food. The staff was beyond accommodating and not just served us, but became friends. We can't wait to come back to this special Wilderness Place! We just returned from a week at WPL and after traveling the US and Canada for fishing lodges this will be the one I return to. The staff goes out of their way to make you comfortable and tailors your fishing experience. If you fly fish, want to learn, spinner fish or just want to throw a bobber this place is it. Solid salmon run every year and plenty of wildlife.
